If you're a contractor, you must obtain Workers' Compensation and General Liability certificates of insurance for any subcontractor exposure. If you cannot obtain certificates of insurance, subcontractors will be treated as your employees and a premium charge made.
The premium for uninsured subcontractors can be substantial so it's to your advantage to obtain certificates of insurance. Hold Harmless Agreements or signed Waivers are not acceptable substitutes. These are general guidelines and different state rules may vary.
Subcontract cost must also be determined for your liability policy.
